Take a chance and roll the dice in Crit Happens!

Crit Happens! is a dice-building, turn-based, roguelike! Face fearsome foes, using your trusty dice to fight! Use your rolls carefully, and know when to hold if you want to  unleash the most powerful of attacks! Unlock powerful trinkets that alter the way your dice are calculated, unique relics bestowing you with mighty abilities, and magical dice faces which can be forged onto your dice granting special attacks!

How to Play:

Roll your dice to increase the damage you deal before attacking. You can keep rolling until you run out of rolls. You can hold individual dice if you don't want them to be re-rolled. Your attack includes the numbers on your active dice and held dice combined.

While playing you will acquire items called "trinkets". Trinkets apply additional conditions for triggering multipliers, with only a single trinket able to be active at a time. During combat your collection of trinkets will be shuffled and cycled through at the beginning of each turn. This means you'll have to tackle each turn differently based on the current active trinket.

Relics are another item type which offer permanent upgrades for your current run. Some simply increase your max HP, while others can add aditional effects to special dice. The key difference between trinkets and relics is that all your relics are always active.

Demo Features:

  • 1 floor.
  • 1 boss fight.
  • 20+ trinkets.
  • 40 relics.
  • special dice faces.
  • 10 basic enemy types.

This is an early build of Crit Happens!, expect the demo to be gradually updated with more content and balancing. Feedback will be very helpful, so please consider joining my Discord server to discuss the demo.

Mirror should do the base damage you would take so it stacks with shield.

(+1)

I'm not sure what you mean by this? If I remember correctly the mirror reflects the full damage received. Are you saying that if you have shield + mirror then it reflects 0 damage? If so then I can get that fixed.

(+1)

yeah, doing 0 makes it feel bad, them working together will be much more fun.

(+1)

Love dice sides system might be fun to do more with it IE bing able to have 2 bonus on a face with a upgrade that gives you a half and half face that can have 2 diffrent effects, and being able to buy certain number sides would be intresting, would also make more sense to have a X or Asterix instead of 0 on faces that dont change value.

(+2)

Needs a lot of polish on being able to look at all your trinkets and relics, seeing what ones you get and what they do In every situation, trinkets being able to toggle on or off would make random ones feel less bad, maybe leting more be active at once the more you have IE every 3 trinkets a extra one is active each turn.

I plan on having a lot more transparency on which trinkets/relics you receive from events/chests/battle rewards. I'll also be adding a system to sell trinkets, so if you received a trinket that doesn't match your playstyle you have to play around it until you can sell it/pay at the shop to have it removed.

Selling would be nice.

No bonus for 4 of a Kind???

(+1)

By default 2 of a kind are the natural multiplier, anything else requires specific trinkets. This is to make each turn a little different and stop people from attempting the same rolls every single turn.

Might be nice if they were relics or some trinkets could get upgraded to relics, others could get extra uses/scaling.

(+1)

I was thinking of allowing the player to upgrade trinkets at campfires. Upgrading them into relics would be a bit tricky though as some trinkets counteract each other.

I mean trinkets like Triples rolles would upgrade into relics while ones like Hammer could get upgraded to up to 3 1/2s give +10, or empty bottle could give a extra reroll and so on

Something that might help people not spam the same rolls is giving us runs, 1,2,3,4,5 as a option as then we arn't incentivized to put all are statuses on 1s or 6s as much.

(+1)

Needs a endless mode, Dice rolls are terrible not even changing face most of time on rerolls dice should always roll to a standard that wont get you banned from a casino.

(+1)

I'm aware of an issue with dice rolls often landing on the same number repeatedly. I'll try and get it fixed ASAP.

(+1)

I would give it a Hard must bounce of a wall rule similar to casinos, and maybe check if the top face has changed at least once before being a legal roll on fails just roll it again maybe even give it a little animation/text for when it happens.

(+1)

I've made a new adjustment (not been uploaded yet) that should almost guarantee the dice change face at least once during a roll.

(+1)

Also dice can land on there edge and we cant tell what it is could be nice if it either counted as both or would get rerolled.

(+1)

Yeah, that's something I'm trying to fix. It was less of an issue with my old dice roll detecting method. But I should be able to get it sorted. It's something that's quite difficult to test for because of how randomly the dice are thrown.

If you want them to always flatten out once you detect the side make the opposite face super heavy and lower play field friction so all dice get slide away, It looked like you using a 3D rolling area so this should be a fix.

(+3)

attempting to reroll dice against the chained reaper when he has chained one of your dice and you've saved all your other dice softlocks the game. pretty fun so far however. keep it up

(+1)

Thanks for letting me know, I'll try and get that fixed asap!
